Diablo Region PCA History

In the heart of Northern California, where the spirit of Porsche thrives, lies the story of Diablo PCA’s humble yet captivating origins. It all began at a quaint Denny’s in Walnut Creek, now the beloved Buttercup Grill, where a group of East Bay Porsche enthusiasts from the Golden Gate Region would gather for breakfast. These simple meetings, fueled by shared passions and dreams, sparked the idea of creating something more – a dedicated East Bay charter within the Porsche Club of America (PCA).

Driven by a desire to bring Porsche activities closer to the expanding East Bay community, this initiative quickly gained momentum. On February 18, 1984, a new chapter began as the Executive Council of the Porsche Club of America officially recognized the Diablo Region, encompassing the vibrant counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano. This marked the birth of a region that today, still proudly upholds its founding structure.

The Diablo Region’s inaugural roster featured 37 members, a blend of 35 transfers from the Golden Gate Region and 2 enthusiastic newcomers. This count, inclusive of associate members, laid the foundation for a community that would grow in both size and spirit. Among these charter members were individuals like Bill Packwood and Tom Martenot, whose ongoing involvement is a testament to our enduring legacy. We also honor the memory of John Clever, our first President and a charter member, through the annual John Clever Award, celebrating outstanding contributions to our community.

Now, with over 1,300 members, including associates, Diablo PCA stands as a vibrant testament to the power of community and shared passion. Our journey has seen us move from one gathering spot to another – from Cocos to Marie Calendars – adapting and growing with each change. Today, we continue our unique tradition of weekly breakfast meetings at the Buttercup Grill, the only PCA region to do so. This evolution from a small breakfast club to a dynamic community of Porsche aficionados reflects our deep-rooted camaraderie and unwavering passion for the Porsche experience.

Join us at Diablo PCA, where every member’s story is woven into the fabric of our rich history, and every Porsche is a celebrated member of our family.
